When Cardinal Treatment Center needed to elevate their website’s user experience and search engine performance, the team at Your Content Factory conducted a comprehensive, multi-phase optimization project. Here’s exactly what was done, how many steps it took, and the results.
The Challenge
Cardinal Treatment Center is a CARF-accredited addiction treatment facility serving Southern Ohio with locations in Portsmouth, Ironton, Chillicothe, and Piketon. Their website at cardinaltreatment.com had several issues impacting both user experience and search visibility:
Service pages were text-heavy walls of content with no visual differentiation. Multiple pages were missing H1 heading tags or had incorrect heading hierarchy. Meta descriptions were absent on many pages. Image alt text was missing across the site, hurting accessibility and image search rankings. Brand name inconsistencies (“Cardinal Treatments” vs. the correct “Cardinal Treatment”) appeared across several pages. Copy-paste errors had left references to the wrong substances on several addiction treatment pages.
Phase 1: Content Accuracy Audit
The first phase focused on finding and fixing content errors across all 10 addiction treatment service pages (alcohol, drug, benzo, cocaine, crack, fentanyl, heroin, meth, opioid, and prescription drug addiction). Each page was reviewed for copy-paste errors where references to the wrong substance had been left in from page duplication. The brand name was also standardized to “Cardinal Treatment Center” everywhere — removing incorrect variations like “Cardinal Treatments” and “Cardinal Treatment Centers.”
Phase 2: SEO Foundation — Meta Descriptions, H1 Tags, and Alt Text
With content accuracy established, the next phase tackled core SEO technical elements across 29+ pages:
Meta Descriptions: Custom, keyword-rich meta descriptions were written for every key page on the site, following the Dennis Yu dollar-a-day methodology. Each description includes the treatment type, location context (Southern Ohio), and a call-to-action with the phone number. These descriptions are what users see in Google search results, making them critical for click-through rates.
H1 Heading Tags: Over 17 pages received H1 tag corrections. Many pages had their primary heading set as H2 or H3, or were missing an H1 entirely. Proper heading hierarchy (one H1 per page, followed by H2 section headings) was established across every page including the homepage, contact page, all four location pages, the team page, and the About Us page.
Image Alt Text: 15+ images on the homepage received descriptive alt text through both the WordPress Media Library and Elementor widget settings. Alt text improves accessibility for screen readers and helps images appear in Google Image search results.
Phase 3: Visual Design Upgrade — Treatment Pages
The most visible improvement was adding three custom visual elements to all 10 addiction treatment service pages:
“Your Path to Recovery” Flowchart: A five-step icon-box section placed immediately after the hero, showing the treatment journey from Assessment through Medical Detox, Residential/PHP, IOP/Outpatient, to Ongoing Recovery. This gives visitors an immediate visual overview of the process.
“If You Recognize These Signs” Callout Box: A dark maroon CTA section positioned after the warning signs content, with a direct call button to (614) 285-5111. This creates urgency at the exact moment a reader identifies with the symptoms described.
Treatment Programs Grid: A four-column icon-box grid showing the specific programs available (Medical Detox, Residential Treatment, Partial Hospitalization, and Outpatient Programs), each linked to the corresponding program page. This improves internal linking and helps users navigate to the right level of care.
Phase 4: Visual Design Upgrade — Program Pages
The same visual design system was extended to all 5 program subpages: Residential Treatment, Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), Partial Hospitalization (PHP), Intensive Outpatient (IOP), and General Outpatient (GOP).
Each program page received three new sections: a “What [Program] Includes” highlights bar showing five key features with icons, a “Ready to Start?” CTA callout with phone number, and an “Explore Our Other Programs” navigation grid linking to the four sister programs. This creates a cohesive cross-linking network between all program pages.
Phase 5: Homepage Optimization
The homepage received targeted improvements to its heading hierarchy and image optimization. Seven section headings were upgraded from H3 to H2 to create proper SEO hierarchy under the single H1. All ten image widgets in Elementor had their alt text updated with descriptive, keyword-relevant text.
By The Numbers
Here’s the scope of this project across all phases:
15 pages received custom visual design upgrades with icon boxes, flowcharts, CTA callouts, and program navigation grids. 29+ pages received optimized meta descriptions. 17+ pages had H1 heading tags added or corrected. 15+ images on the homepage received descriptive alt text. 30+ pages were audited for brand name consistency. 10 treatment pages were reviewed for content accuracy. Every change was made using the Elementor page builder API, allowing precise programmatic control over design elements, spacing, colors, and typography — all matching Cardinal Treatment Center’s existing brand palette of maroon (#5C1515) and red (#C41E1E) accents on warm beige (#FFF5EE) backgrounds.
The Approach: Agent-Driven Automation
What makes this project unique is the execution method. Rather than manually clicking through each page in the WordPress admin, the improvements were implemented through automated browser actions using AI-assisted agent workflows. This allowed hundreds of individual changes to be made across 30+ pages in a fraction of the time traditional manual work would require — while maintaining consistency across every page.
Each visual element was built using Elementor’s JavaScript API, ensuring pixel-perfect consistency in icon sizes, colors, padding, typography, and responsive behavior. The same design template was adapted for each page’s specific content and substance type.
Results
The Cardinal Treatment Center website now offers visitors a dramatically improved experience. Instead of text-heavy walls of content, each service page features visual flowcharts, highlighted callout boxes, and organized program grids. The SEO foundation is solid with proper heading hierarchy, comprehensive meta descriptions, and accessible image alt text across every page.
